Another (Save the Date!) Viewpoint

Davis Library at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College is gearing up for its annual observance of National Library Week (NLW), which takes place each April.

Save the date!...

For this year’s NLW celebration the Friends of the Davis Library will host a special “Occupy Davis Library” event on Davis Library’s Main Floor Saturday, April 12th beginning around 1 PM.

The program is to feature a Steve Free, award-winning musician-singer from McDermott, Ohio, who will pay tribute to legendary American folk singer and activist Pete Seeger, who passed away earlier this year, by highlighting classic protest songs and tunes from the folk music revival of the 1960s.

In addition to the musical performance, the University of Rio Grande’s Theatre Department will offer readings from stories they’ve been collecting on The Night Abbie Hoffman Spent the Night at Rio and examples of student activism during the 1960s.

Many of these stories as well as those collected from local veterans of the Vietnam War will be featured on Ohio River Tales, an online collection of oral histories that is still currently under construction and found through a link on the Davis Library Home Page.

Look for more details on these upcoming events and NLW to be announced again here soon!
