I Cannot Tell a Lie...

In honor of the Presidents' Day Holiday Weekend, Davis Library at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College will be CLOSED:

Saturday, February 13^th;
Sunday, February 14^th; and
Monday, February 15^th.

Regular hours will resume Tuesday, February 16, 2016. We’ll be open from 8 AM to 10 PM that day.

American History - February Birthdays Book Display

Also in honor of both Presidents’ Day and Black History Month, Davis Library is celebrating three February birthdays this month! Come check out our small book display important figures in American History:

George Washington – February 22, 1732

“Father of Our Country”—1^st President of the United States and Leader of the Continental Army (American Revolutionary War)

Abraham Lincoln – February 12, 1809

16^th President of the United States who also lead the United States through Civil War—preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the Federal government and modernized the U.S. economy

Frederick Douglass – c. February, 1818

[Exact Date Unknown: Recognized as Valentine’s Day/February 14^th]

Former slave who became a national leader in United States’ abolitionist movement during and prior to the Civil War. Writer, orator and statesman, Douglass was an important activist for civil rights seeking equality for all Americans—men, women, black, white, Native American, and immigrants

The ideals these men fought for during their lifetimes have played a significant role in how libraries in the United States were founded and how they continue to operate today. Libraries strive to serve as the cornerstones of democracy—preserving the freedoms of our First Amendment Rights.
