Earlier this week—
Sunday, July 20, 2014—marked the
45th anniversary of Apollo 11’s Moon Walk, the American spaceflight that landed the
first humans on the Earth’s Moon’s surface.
The event’s success triggered a great many technological advances that
still impact our lives today and has also helped to provide greater
understanding of how our
Solar System was formed.
To honor and recognize this historical achievement in space
exploration,
Davis Library, here at the
University of Rio Grande/Rio GrandeCommunity College, is highlighting some sites and resources related to the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the
Apollo Missions.
(See resources listed in box below.)
|
Davis Library receives a variety of NASA publications, which are housed in the Government Documents Collection found on the Main Floor |
Then, for those interested in how space travel captures our
imagination, we’re also featuring a few of our most popular
Sci-Fi works.
We have a substantial number of items in our
collections related to the
Star Trek universe, an entertainment franchise that
has evolved from the
1960s television series about the interstellar adventures of
the crew of the starship
Enterprise created by
Gene Roddenberry.
